Covert Culture Sourcebook 2.0
Covert Culture Sourcebook 2.0 Overview
This is not a rah-rah-underground-culture-rules book. It's an information guide. It's a big darn list (with addresses and phone numbers) of items that you might find interesting. That's all it is. This is a book about information, options, and useful stuff that you can get your hands or eyeballs on. Period.
Covert Culture Sourcebook 2.0 Editorial Reviews
Gordon FlaggThe follow-up to Kadrey's earlier compilation of cutting-edge alternative media goes a bit further. It still covers offbeat books, music, and video; but now there's greater emphasis on new technology--so this time, no print zines, only "ezines" available electronically on the Internet. Speaking of which, there's a lengthy Internet section devoted to books about the net, FTP (that's File Transfer Protocol to the uninitiated) sites, the World Wide Web, and E-mail lists. Other techie stuff includes a scattering of CD-ROMs and software. The Internet section exemplifies the strength and weakness of Kadrey's approach: the array of services he describes might open neophyte eyes, but the experienced already know those resources or how to find out about them. The same can be said for the contents of most of the other sections. Furthermore, since an exhaustive list in any of those areas could fill a book by itself, Kadrey's highly selective listings only scratch the surface. Nevertheless, as with the original volume, even most with-it counterculture consumers may discover something new here.
